| Crypto cards with card operating
system CardOS from Siemens can be used for a wide variety of applications,
including biometric verification. There are a lot of possibilities
to realize a biometric verification system: |

Use the card as an unspoofable
identifier and pointer to the user-specific biometric reference data in
a central data base |

For more privacy by enabling
user-revocable biometrics, use the card as an unspoofable pointer to the
user-specific biometric reference data in a central data base and to deliver
a secret personal key for individual runtime decryption of the associated
biometric reference data during comparison. |

Store the biometric reference
data on the card to prevent unauthorized readout and duplication and enable
user-revocability. Only the application has access to the biometric reference
data which are used for comparison outside the card in a protected environment. |

In systems where the acquisition
of biometric data is under full control of the user (like in a cell phone),
privacy may be further improved by storing and matching the biometric
data on the card, but at the cost of biometric performance. |

a combination of biometrics, smart card, and password may be chosen. |
