The Power of Touch™ from AuthenTec and iC
Compas´ SICRYPT® Smarty added to Fujitsu Siemens Computers STYLISTIC
ST5022 Tablet PC.
Fingerprint augments password for convenient
security
Munich, Germany / Melbourne,
FL, 2005-05-31 – AuthenTec and iC Compas today announced that
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is combining biometric fingerprint solutions
from AuthenTec and iC Compas to provide The Power of Touch to its new STYLISTIC
ST5022 Tablet PC.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has added AuthenTec’s
EntréPad 2501 fingerprint sensor and iC Compas’ SICRYPT® Smarty
access protection software to the recently announced Tablet PC to give
users advanced security, convenience and touch-controlled features that
can be enabled by the simple swipe of their finger. For added convenience,
the STYLISTIC ST5022 also has a unique feature that allows users to slide
their finger up or down across the sensor to authenticate. This feature
is especially important for Tablet PCs like the STYLISTIC ST5022 because
it enables the user to authenticate with the sensor in the most convenient
position. In addition, the sensor and iC Compas’ SICRYPT Smarty provide
a comprehensive Single Sign-On (SSO) to Novell networks as well as to Lotus
Notes.
The Fujitsu Siemens Computers STYLISTIC
ST5022 Tablet PC is a slim and 1.55 kilo light device delivered in a compact
A4 format and utilizing the latest Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology.
Functions can be performed with a special stylus pen, and – if needed –
a wireless keyboard can also be used. Special features include a 12.1 inch
indoor/outdoor viewable display, standard Bluetooth and Wireless LAN, as
well as a dual microphone system that filters out background noise when
recording. The PC is suitable for traditional fields of application like
healthcare and insurance, but also fields such as construction site management
or freight handling.

For advanced security, the iC Compas’ software
offers comfortable two-or three-way authentication -- giving users the
optimal protection of fingerprint, smartcard, and/or password. iC Compas’
SICRYPT® Smarty access protection solution allows for strong three
factor authentication to both local and networked PCs and resources. The
reference features are stored in the encrypted form on the Smartcard, so
that only the owner of the Smartcard is able to start the login process
on the PC. If the Smartcard is removed from the reader, the Tablet PC is
immediately locked. On successful completion of the authentication, SICRYPT®
Smarty automatically registers the user with the system and allows access
to the applications and data enabled for this user. SICRYPT®
Smarty is deployed world wide about 300.000 times. The biometric algorithms
used within Smarty were developed by Bromba GmbH,
who gained the top position in the German evaluation study of biometric
algorithms "Biofinger I" of the "Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik"
(BSI) with their Siemens originated algorithm.
