How to get into your PC in emergency cases

In seldom cases, the ID Device login software does not only prevent access of unwanted persons but also of the authorized person itself. Typical reasons for such malfunctions are:
  • Installation errors, e.g., installing an outdated software version such as 3.1 over a current version 5.x
  • Hardware defects (ID Mouse, disk drives, USB, ...)
  • Manipulations of important ID Device software files
  • All fingers that have been registered are temporarily hurt and cannot be used for authentication while the user has chosen the option to access by fingerprint only.
In such cases it can be necessary to bypass the biometric security functions to get access to the locally stored data. It depends on the precautions of the user/administrator how time-consuming bypassing is. Generally, trying to prevent bypassing to improve protection also complicates emergency bypassing.

Note: This description may also be used to estimate and to manage security items. The following steps require good PC know-how!

Bypassing under Windows 98 and Me

First Method
Press F8 or CTRL (depends on your PC hardware) permanently during booting to enter the "safe mode". It may be necessary to enter the password now. In the safe mode, you may change the ID Mouse settings using the user manager. If you want to deactivate the ID Device software, rename the hidden file "cmnp.dll" to, e.g. "cmnp.dll---". cmnp.dll is found in the directory <WINDOWS>\SYSTEM. After rebooting, an error message appears. Click OK!
Second Method
If the safe mode has been deactivated, it may help to use an emergency floppy disk to boot in MS-DOS mode. If you are in the root directory C:, type (replace <WINDOWS> by the real name of your windows directory, which normally is WINDOWS):
cd <WINDOWS>\SYSTEM
attrib -h cmnp.dll
ren cmnp.dll cmnp---.dll
If the command "attrib" does not work since it is only available in the COMMAND directory, type
C:\<WINDOWS>\COMMAND\attrib -h cmnp.dll
Now reboot your computer as in the first method.

If booting by floppy disk has been deactivated, press the function key displayed during booting to enter the BIOS. There you must reactivate booting by emergency diskette.

If the BIOS is password protected and the password has been forgotten, contact your PC dealer how to manage this situation (depends on the specific hardware).

Third Method
Booting from Windows CD, tbf.

Bypassing for Windows 2000 and XP

First Method
Press F8 or CTRL (depends on your PC hardware) permanently during booting to enter the "safe mode". It is necessary to enter the password. In the safe mode, you may change the ID Mouse settings using the user manager. Furthermore, if you login as administrator, you may uninstall the ID Mouse software to get normal access by User ID and password.
Second Method
If booting from CD has not been deactivated, try this procedure:
  1. Insert Windows installation CD and boot from CD
  2. When the greeting window comes press F10 (even if it is not offered). Do NOT press F3 or RETURN
  3. Black screen: Choose installation of Windows, e.g., "1".
  4. Enter administrator password.
  5. type (without quotation marks) "cd SYSTEM32"
  6. type "ren IDGPOSLogin.dll IDLogin.dll"
  7. type: "copy msgina.dll IDGPOSLogin.dll"
  8. type "exit"
  9. Reboot
Now the standard Windows login window should appear instead of the ID Mouse login.

If booting by CD has been deactivated, press the function key displayed during booting to enter the BIOS. There you can reactivate booting by CD.

If the BIOS is password protected and the password has been forgotten, contact your PC dealer how to manage this situation (depends on the specific hardware).

Third Method
This method requires hardware knowledge and is only recommended for experienced users!
  1. Dismount the hard disk drive and assemble it as additional drive in another PC with the same file system
  2. Rename the file "IDGPOSLogin.dll" in the directory SYSTEM32 to "IDLogin.dll"
  3. Create a copy of "msgina.dll"
  4. Rename this copy to "IDGPOSLogin.dll"
  5. Remount the hard disk drive to the original PC
  6. Reboot
Now the standard Windows login window should appear instead of the ID Mouse login. This method is to be applied when the Administrator password has been lost and the Safe Mode does not work.
