Our Company
| As a biometrics specialist,
we provide hardware and software components as well as consulting services
for industrial and public customers. Based on patented algorithms, we develop
and offer fingerprint technology with outstanding performance, especially
suited for the challenges of low-cost fingerprint sensors. In addition,
we continue the business of "Dr. Bromba Infrared Indicators", which has
gained a leading position in the area of low-cost IR indicator cards during
the last 20 years. |

Our Philosophy
| In many applications biometrics
is
inseparably associated with the topic of security. Security, however,
requires confidence. For that reason, objectivity of our
consulting services, as well as candidness and competence
is the main policy in contact with our customers. Test us: |
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| Each
biometric feature has its application specific right to exist. We don't
know of any feature which uniformly behaves better than all others in every
application. |
|
| We
don't know of any biometric feature which performs optimal in every application.
So we do not recommend our customers to use fingerprint on a building site
because strongly stressed fingers do not enable stable recognition today. |
|
|
|
| Practice
shows that security systems do not exist without any vulnerability. Our
customers have a right to get information about all (even theoretical)
vulnerabilities we know about biometric systems in general and our products
in detail. Only with this knowledge biometrics is reasonably applicable. |
|
| Biometric
authentication has a lot of advantages against traditional methods. However,
we regard it dangerous to believe that biometrics is the solution for all
security problems. So we don't make our customers believe that an affordable
fake detection will fix all troubles evident in some applications. |
|
|
|
| There
are many application ideas which inspire by logical simplicity and user
friendliness. On the other hand, these ideas are subject to considerable
risks. So we will not recommend our customers to equip ATMs with fingerprint
identification
("1:N").

|
| Privacy is of highest importance
for us. Biometrics may improve privacy but may also be a challenge to it.
So we don't tell our customers that biometric templates do not allow any
reconstruction of raw images. |

|
|
| The
focus of our business is to deal with cooperative biometric systems. Cooperativity
means that such a systems is perceived as useful and can be accepted voluntarily
by all users. Successful systems features benefits to all involved
persons. |

Our Team
| The employees
of Bromba GmbH mostly come from the business unit Biometrics of Siemens
AG and represent more than 9 years of experience in the areas of general
biometrics, the development of fingerprint sensors, fingerprint-sensor
devices, fingerprint algorithms, biometrics application software, and fingerprint
authentication |
systems,
as well as the evaluation of biometric components (sensors and algorithms)
and complete systems. Also, the topics security and fake protection are
among the long lasting work areas of our team which represent the branches
physics, mathematics, computer science, statistics and engineering. |

As CEO of the
Bromba GmbH, Manfred Bromba is responsible for sales, product definition,
hardware security and scientific/technological consulting. |
|
|
| Professional career:
After an education at Nixdorf Computer AG as electronic technician a study
of electrical engineering and physics followed at Paderborn university.
After conferral of a doctorate and two further years in scientific research
(digital signal processing) he moved to Siemens Semiconductors in 1983.
There he was responsible for a series of product innovations in the field
of multimedia such as Digital TV, Embedded DRAM, and MultiMediaCard™. 1986
he founded a small company called "Dr. Bromba Infrared Indicators". |
1997 Manfred Bromba moved
to the Siemens Group "Private Networks" (today Information & Communication
Mobile) where he continued the biometrics activities. As a member of TeleTrusT
e.V. and the NI-37 biometrics working group of the German standardization
body DIN e.V. he actively participates in the promotion and standardization
of biometrics systems. Manfred Bromba is author of numerous publications
(-> DSP
& spectrometrics, -> biometrics,
->
speleology)
and inventions (-> esp@cenet). |
